The Apoint.exe process is a component of the drivers, which belong to Alps Touchpad software for laptop PC's. It is used with keyboard to increase functionality, such as touchpad enhancements on keyboard. It also allows part of the touchpad to be used for document or Web-page scrolling.
Other instance of Apoint Apoint.exe:
Recommendation:
The Apoint.exe process is not an essential file to the computer system. But it is required by the Alps Touchpad drivers to run smoothly. It has no visible window. You should not remove it from the startup list. Otherwise, it will cause troubles to the Alps Touchpad functions.

Touchpad software for laptop PC's. For instance it is found on the Panasonic machines and allows part of the touchpad to be used for document or Web-page scrolling. Required for proper functioning of the pointing software but not required for the laptop to work

his is an, MS Authenticode signed package which provides control functions for Touchpads manufactured by Alps (http://www.alps.com/). PROCEXP can be used to ID Authenticode signed drivers. GU should validate against WHDC info before allowing user ratings to skew safety ratings.

1. Jedduff\'s comment is incorrect: it\'s needed to control settings for any system using the Alps touchpad, not just Dell.
This program has a static working set of 1.9Mb; it\'s companion, Apoint.exe, has a static 5.9Mb working set.

Its trustworthy process of Alps pointing device driver, necessary to start the driver on window restart, mostly associated with laptops as they need pointing device....

I use an external USB mouse. I would imagine I don't need this to open at start-up for that reason. I'm setting it to be delayed, where I can open it if I find it absolutely necessary

Touchpad.
Keep if you use touchpad;
Disable if you do not use touchpad.
Pretty simple enough to figure out.
