Safe, but make sure you know who you are talking to and who is seing your video. Background in your pictures may give away your location. Use for family and friends only. Play it safe. There are plenty of nuts out there.

My Skype installation (Version 3.8.0.139) has downloaded/uploaded unknown streams. I had detected this problem using Sygate Personal Firewall.

Skype is a memory hoarded. If you want to use it all day every day then enable it, otherwise disable it from Startup and launch it as you require it.

I use this every day, it\'s perfectly safe
under normal conditions it doesn\'t use much CPU or bandwidth, and most the time with enough RAM [2gb is fine], it won\'t affect your computers operation
of course it uses a lot of memory, but you can just exit it if needed, or if you rarely use, it, just remove it from start-up
