Source: Processlibrary.com armsvc.exe service is critical to the application Adobe Reader 10.1 and any newer versions. The process handles the updating of the application through an Updater which runs silently in the background searching for newer updates. By default Adobe Reader has a setting "Automatically install updates" which allows this process to run. There are multiple options tied to this process and if you do not want the process to appear, you can simply select the option "Do not download or install updates automatically". The way the Updater works can be accessed through the Preference/Options section within the product. Terminating the armsvc will not allow Adobe Reader to be updated.

I'M NOT CRAZY ABOUT... ACROBAT... IT SLOWS DOWN MY COMPUTERS OVER ALL APPLICATIONS... I have been known to uninstall Acrobat, and keep the rest of Adobe products.
